What are the application requirements for the master's program with thesis?

In order to apply for the master's program with thesis, candidates;

A) must have a bachelor's degree or a foreign faculty or college degree recognized as equivalent by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and a minimum ALES score of 55 in the type of score of the program they are applying for. However, no ALES score is required for student admissions to the main science and main art branches in the institutes of the faculties of fine arts and conservatories.

B) It is required to have entered one of the central foreign language exams conducted by ÖSYM and recognized as equivalent by ÖSYM, which are accepted by YÖK.

How are the success scores for the master's program with thesis calculated?

In the admission to thesis master's programs, a success score is calculated based on the ALES score, undergraduate grade point average, and foreign language score. In the calculation of the success score, 50% of the ALES score, 40% of the undergraduate grade point average, and 10% of the foreign language score are taken into consideration for ranking. In case of equal success scores, priority is given to the candidate with higher ALES score, undergraduate graduation grade, and foreign language score, respectively. However, the evaluation of programs that accept students with a special talent exam is calculated based on the ALES score, undergraduate grade point average, foreign language score, written and/or oral exam or practical exam result upon the request of the competent boards. In the evaluation of the success score, 50% of the ALES score, 20% of the undergraduate grade point average, 10% of the foreign language score, and 20% of the written and/or oral exam or practical exam score are taken into consideration for ranking.

How long is the duration of thesis-based master's programs?

The duration of the master's program with thesis, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, starts from the semester in which the courses related to the program to which he/she is registered are given, regardless of whether he/she registers for each semester, is four semesters, and the program is completed in a maximum of six semesters. If the student who cannot successfully complete his/her credit courses and seminar course in the curriculum at the end of four semesters or cannot meet the success conditions/criteria set by the institute within this period; or fails in the thesis study within the maximum periods or does not enter the thesis defense without a valid excuse, his/her affiliation with the institute is terminated.

How many courses should be taken in the master's program with thesis?

The master's program with thesis consists of at least seven courses, one seminar course, and a thesis study, provided that it is not less than a total of 21 credits. The seminar course and thesis study are non-credit and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The master's program with thesis consists of at least eight courses including the seminar course and a thesis study, provided that it is not less than 60 ects credits of an academic year, and a total of at least 120 ects credits.

Can one take courses from the undergraduate program or another institute or higher education institution in the master's program with thesis?

The student can choose a maximum of two courses from undergraduate courses, provided that they have not been taken during undergraduate studies. In addition, with the recommendation of the eabd/easd presidency and the approval of the eyk, a maximum of two courses can be selected from the courses offered in other institutes and/or other higher education institutions.

When is the thesis proposal submitted?

The thesis proposal is suggested to the institute with the approval of the advisor, the decision of eabdak/easdak, after the student successfully completes his/her courses and seminars until the beginning of the following period, and it is finalized with the approval of eyk. In case of a change in the thesis proposal, the provisions of the relevant article are applied.

What conditions must be met to enter the thesis defense?

Having at least one paper presented orally/poster at a national or international conference, congress or symposium, or a scientific article accepted/published in a national/international refereed journal, or a patent/utility model application accepted under the name of the university (for students who registered in the 2020-2021 academic year) and taking at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study with a minimum of four semesters and 120 ECTS, provided that it is not less than 21 credits is required.

What is done after the decision of correction in the thesis defense exam?

The student, who was given a revision decision about the thesis, defends the revised thesis in front of the same jury within at most three months. If the student is found unsuccessful in this defense and the thesis is not accepted, the student's affiliation with the institute is terminated.

What is done about the student whose thesis is rejected?

The student whose thesis is found unsuccessful and rejected is disaffiliated from the institute. If the student whose thesis is rejected makes a request, provided that they have fulfilled the course credit load, project writing, and similar requirements of the non-thesis master's program, a non-thesis master's degree is given. During this period, the student may be given an additional semester to fulfill the requirements of the non-thesis master's program.

What is the procedure if one of the jurors does not attend the master's thesis defense exams?

If any of the exam jury members do not attend, it is done with the participation of the substitute member upon the call of the eabd/easd president. If the jury member selected from a different higher education institution does not attend the exam, the substitute member from outside is invited to the exam.

For how long is the military deferment extended for students enrolled in master's programs with thesis?

In master's programs with thesis, military deferments are requested only once by our institute from the military recruitment regional directorate. Follow-up procedures related to the deferment date should be done by the students. Deferment process cannot be performed for students who are in default or whose deferment has been postponed for another reason.
